Pioneers celebrate Senior Night in style

Carroll honors six seniors with CCIW victory over Elmhurst in regular-season home-court finale

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Senior outside hitter Kylie Mueller (Fox Lake, Ill.) finished with a team-high 11 kills as the Carroll University women's volleyball team defeated Elmhurst College 14-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-21 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin home-court dual meet at Van Male Field House on Wednesday night.
It was the regular-season home-court finale for Carroll, which won its third consecutive dual to improve to 3-3 in the highly contested conference standings and 14-11 overall with the emotional Senior Night performance.
With the energized victory, Carroll moved into a tie for fifth place with two league duals remaining in the regular season.
The Pioneers are seeking a second straight trip to the CCIW Tournament.
The evening took on added significance as the team honored the lasting contributions of Mueller, opposite hitter/middle blocker Erika Dunnam (Shawano, Wis.), setter Emma Przeslicke (Evergreen Park, Ill.), outside hitter Sydney Wilkins (Portage, Ind.), outside hitter Cassidy Mrotek (Manitowoc, Wis.) and setter Jennilyn Joy Cave (Bolingbrook, Ill.).
Tied 20-20 in the fourth set, Carroll responded to the pressure-packed situation with a victory-clinching 5-1 run - capped by back-to-back kills by junior middle blocker Rachel Noonan (Crystal Lake, Ill.) and Wilkins.
Wilkins contributed 10 kills for the Pioneers, who showcased their heart, determination and focus by overcoming an early one-set deficit. Dunnam contributed nine kills and four blocks, Noonan collected six blocks while  Mrotek had eight kills, a team-best 19 digs and a service ace.
Freshman defensive specialist Emily Konop (Oregon, Wis.) finished with 19 digs and two aces for Carroll, which generated 11 kills to power a .258 hitting percentage in the decisive fourth set. Cave had 20 assists with Przeslicke adding 17 assists.
Bailey Brouwer finished with 13 kills for Elmhurst, which dropped to 3-3 in league and 8-19 overall.
