WAUKESHA, WIs. – Carroll University (8-13, 0-5 CCIW) dropped a pair of games on Saturday afternoon to Illinois Wesleyan University 14-4 and 16-7.
In game one, IWU jumped out to the early 3-0 lead after one. Carroll would briefly tie the game with a three run second inning, but six homeruns for IWU would lead to the easy victory.
Three freshman pitchers, Mike Costanzo, Drew McDermid and Zach Tuss would combine to work five solid innings of relief in the opener.
Game two was more of the same as IWU would collect three more long balls in the win.
Senior Brett Zickert provided a spark out of the pen, working three scoreless inning for the Pioneers.
Carroll University will look to rebound on Sunday as they host IWU for the third and final game of the series. The start time has been bumped up to 10am due to rain potential in the afternoon.
