Nick Mantas of football and
Theresa Wichser of women's basketball grab this week's Marcos Pizza Pioneer Athletes of the Week for their practice performances last week.
Mantas, a business management major, has proven to be an elite defensive lineman in practice. He has led in the classroom and on the field as well, earning dean's list honors. Coach
Mike Budziszewski says Mantas' high level of effort and execution will make him one of the top defensive linemen in the CCIW.
Wichser, a junior education major, "won the day" Sunday at practice after she won the most drills on her team. During the shooting drills, she sank 67 out of 100 three pointers and 44 of 60 in another drill. Along with being a team captain, Wischer represents the team well with a 3.9 cumulative GPA, after securing a 4.0 in the spring semester.

Megan Juergensen – Women's lacrosse: Juergensen, a nursing major, has been giving 110% on the field and in the classroom. On the field, she has great effort and attitude, while asking the right questions at the right times. In the classroom she has had three straight perfect scores on her anatomy exams.
David Gilbert – Men's track and field: Gilbert has been a leader and sense of calm since the beginning. He has shown great ability to listen and give positive feedback to his peers. Coach
Shawn Thielitz says "It's like having another assistant coach on our staff…his leadership, calm demeanor, and work ethic are why his teammates respect and look up to him."
Hannah Bouwkamp – Women's track and field: Bouwkamp has been a quick learner since her shortened freshman campaign last year. The coaching staff has been "astonished by how fast she has become a leader on the team."
Allyssa Demma – Softball: Demma has been a leader for the team on and off the field. She has had a super positive attitude during the cohort and has been a great role model to the younger catchers. Demma also serves as the vice president of Carroll SAAC.
Erin Paschke – Women's swimming and diving: Erin has been exceptional in the weight room this week. She has been cheering on her teammates, setting a great example, and showing fantastic work ethic.
Chris Fabian – Men's swimming and diving: Chris has been super consistent thorough the full week of practice. Always on time, and always ready to work!
