Women’s Bowling Finishes Strong at First Tournament

The Pioneers went head-to-head with some of the best teams in the nation

 FAIRVIEW, Ill. – The Carroll University women's bowling program began its first season Friday through Sunday at the McKendree University Bearcat Open. The Pioneers finished in 13th place with a weekend record of 5-8.
 
On day one, the Pios competed in five baker matches, going 2-3 on the day. Carroll picked up its first win in program history against the University of Central Missouri by a score of 925-917. The Pios defeated Alabama A&M in their next match, 779-773. Carroll got an early look at CCIW competition against Aurora on the last match of the day but fell 812-846.
 
On day two, Carroll played five traditional matches, all against teams either ranked nationally or receiving votes. Carroll fell 0-5, including losses to the no. 15, no. 2, and no. 1 ranked schools in the nation. Gabrielle Soll and Emma Pfaffl competed in all five matches, ending the day with averages of 163.8 and 155, respectively. Makenzie Phillips and Alexis Ciesemier also finished Saturday with averages above 160. The team's average combined score for the five matches was 773.8.
 
On Sunday, the Pioneers were placed into a bracket with three more games to determine their final position. Starting in 16th, Carroll defeated Alabama A&M, North Central, and Carthage to take 13th place. The Pioneers only lost one game out of the 13 played on Sunday and averaged 770.3 pins per match in baker-style match play.
 
Carroll will regroup and travel to Kenosha for the Stephen F. Austin hosted, Lady Jack Classic November 12-14.
