Racine, Wis. -- The Carroll University men's tennis team opened their conference schedule on the road at Carthage on Friday night. The men were only able to supply one victory, falling 1-8.
In doubles, all three pairings struggled against the Firebirds.
Lucas Nay and
Brian Trefliek fell 2-8,
Luke Barter and
Michael Rose fell 2-8, and
Ryan Strupp &
Chris Jensen suffered defeat 1-8.
In singles, Nay held the lone victory of the night, improving to 3-0 on the season. Nay dropped the first set 1-6, but came back with a resounding 7-6 (7) victory, and pulled away with the 1-0 tiebreaker. Trefliek gave it his all through two sets, but fell 2-6, 3-6. Barter (1-6, 1-6), Rose (1-6, 1-6), Strupp (0-6, 1-6), and Jensen (0-6, 0-6) were all beaten in straight sets.
The men have a quick turnaround this weekend and will host Elmhurst at the Princeton Club tomorrow at 3 PM in New Berlin, Wis. The Pioneers are 2-1 against the Bluejays in the last three meetings.
