WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Carroll University men's outdoor track and field team went up against tough competition in preparation for conference, by going to the Drake Alternative Meet hosted by Wisconsin-Whitewater Friday. Steven Hermsen became the new school record holder in the men's hammer throw, while other Pioneers put together career-best performances.

In track events, Carter Ratcliff put together two personal bests in both the 100m dash and 200m dash. Ratcliff finished fifth with a time of 22.12 in the 200m. Evan Neubauer recorded a PR in the 100m trials too. Peter Marra finished third in the 110m hurdles and second in the 400m hurdles. Marra's time of 54.16 in the 400 hurdles set a new personal best. Trenton Nickel and Nathan Raatz finished fourth and sixth in the 400m, while Jacob Radovan had a new career-fastest time. Ethan Weber, River Sterud, and Sawyer Caves all had PRs in the 800m run, while Bailey Olson and Holden Thielke did the same in the 1500m.

In field events, Hermsen won the discus with a distance of 56.48m, followed by a PR of 46.37 from Brady Reusser in third. In the hammer, Hermsen took over the record with a distance of 57.43m. Hermsen now holds a school record in every throwing event he has competed in collegiately. Jimmy Hinkley finished third in the hammer with a 55.25m throw. Earlier in the day, Ratcliff competed in the javelin and finished with a new season-high of 30.44m. Sterud also competed in the long jump at the beginning of the day, and PR'd, with a 4.95m jump. Hermsen finished second in the shot put with a throw of 15.99m to finish up the day.
