Naperville, Ill. – The Carroll University men's golf team started the 2023 CCIW Championship at Whitetail Ridge Golf Course. The Pioneers sit in 9
th place with a score of 319 after day one.
TJ Walton came into opening day as the number two golfer for the Pioneers. Walton finished day one with a 74 and is currently tied for 11
th place. The freshman finished with two birdies and a eagle on the day. He also finished the day with just one double-bogey. A promising opening round for the Walton going into the rest of weekend.
Evan Bridges finished second in the group with a 76. Bridges currently sits tied for 15
th going into day two. The senior captain could only find one birdie today but finished strong with four straight pars. This will hopefully give Bridges some momentum going into day two of the CCIW Championships.
Devin Wilde finished just five strokes behind Bridges with an 81. This puts Wilde tied for 31
st going into day two. The senior went in as the no. 3 golfer and finished with one birdie and eight pars on the day.
Drew Esveldt shot an 88 on the day. This tied a season low for the freshman as each golfer finished below 90. The freshman made one birdie and seven pars on the day. This season low put Esveldt in 43
rd and hopes of continuing the success moving forward into day two.
