Kenosha, Wis. – The Carroll University men's golf team had record breaking successes in the Strawberry Creek Classic hosted by Carthage College at The Club of Strawberry Creek. The Pioneers finished 4
th place overall out of a very completive 21 team field. Through the 36-hole tournament Carroll recorded a school record breaking team round of 290 points. The team continued their dominance going into day two, as they broke the school's record for a 36-hole tournament shooting a 595 (just one stroke outside of top three finish).
Evan Bridges ended up taking home fifth place as an individual. He shot an even par on the first day of the tournament and then turned around and shot -1 on the final day. Bridges earned himself a respectable presence in the field after finishing first team all-conference last season. After this week's tournament Bridges is average 70.8 on his round, or one under par through the first three tournaments of the year.
Bridges isn't the only Pioneers having an impressive kick off to the 2023-24 season. Tj Walton joins Bridges as these two become quite the duo for Carroll. The sophomore had an impressive opening day at the Strawberry Creek Classic shooting a 68, which put him in second place after day one. Walton had a respectable second day shooting a 77 and finishing in ninth place in the tournament. Walton is averaging a score of 72.6, or +1 through the first three tournaments of the year.
Viggo Olsson finished 17
th overall shooting two very good rounds of 73 and 74 totaling 147 on the two days at the Strawberry Creek Classic. This was followed by
Sondre Barbol shooting a 160 and
Widar Voss shooting a 169 in the tournament.
The Pioneers compete in the UWEC Invitation on September 17-18 in Altoona, Wis. hosted by UW-Eau Claire at the Eau Claire CC.
