The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its annual Women's Basketball All-Conference team Monday afternoon, with three Carroll players earning the honor. Junior
Olivia Rangel and Sophomore
Natalie Gricius each received a First Team selection, while sophomore
Emilie Wizner was named to the Second Team. That trio is a big reason why the 19th-ranked Pioneers are in the midst of one of the greatest seasons in program history, winning a share of the CCIW regular season championship for the first time in program history under the direction of Head Coach
Lindsay Schultz, who received the Beth Baker CCIW Coach of the Year award as a part of the All-Conference team. This marks the third consecutive season that the Pioneers have three players on the All-Conference team.
A guard from Franklin, Wis., Rangel is one of just two players in the conference to be voted as a unanimous selection to the All-CCIW First Team. This marks her third consecutive First Team All-Conference selection as one of the Pioneers' main catalysts this season. Rangel currently ranks fourth in the CCIW in scoring (18.3 ppg) and second in assists (4.8 apg). A three-time CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week this season, Rangel also ranks 10th in the conference in steals (2.1 spg), while also ranking in the top 10 for both field goal percentage (.474) and free throw percentage (.746). She is also second on the team in rebounding (5.0 rpg).
Gricius is making her first career All-Conference selection. The forward from Oconomowoc, Wis. ranks eighth in the CCIW in scoring with 15.7 points per game. Gricius also ranks fifth in the conference in field goal percentage (.493), while also shooting 41.5 percent from 3-point range, and 81 percent from the free throw line. In addition to that, Gricius is averaging 4.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.
A guard from Germantown, Wis., Wizner is also making her first career appearance on the All-Conference squad. She finished the regular season with 14.9 points per game, which ranks 10th in the CCIW. She leads the conference and ranks second in all of Division-III in 3-point shooting, making 50.5 percent of her shots from beyond the arc, while also ranking second in the league for free throw percentage (.859) and sixth in field goal percentage (.492). Wizner is also averaging 2.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.6 steals per game on the season.
Also a part of the All-Conference awards for each sport every year is the CCIW RESPECT Award winners, with each school receiving one honoree. This year's RESPECT Award recipient for Carroll's women's basketball team is senior forward
Lauren Soyke, who is averaging 6.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game, while shooting 51.2 percent from the floor.
The 19th-ranked CCIW co-champion Pioneers will be in action again on Thursday at 5 p.m. as the number two seed in the CCIW semifinals, which will be held at Shirk Center in Bloomington, Ill., with the winner advancing to the championship game to play for an automatic berth into the NCAA Division-III Tournament.
