WAUKESHA, Wis. – Carroll held off Millikin for a hard-fought 67–65 victory in Saturday's CCIW matchup at Van Male Field House thanks to a put-back lay in from Michael McNabb as time expired. The Pioneers overcame a seven-point deficit in the first half and used clutch plays down the stretch to secure their seventh win of the season.
Millikin led 30–25 at halftime, but Carroll responded with a 42-point second half, fueled by balanced scoring and key contributions from the starting lineup. The Pioneers shot 35.5% from the field and 65.4% from the free throw line, with six different players hitting from beyond the arc.
The game featured 13 lead changes and five ties, with Carroll taking the lead for good in the final minute on a layup by Michael McNabb. Lamar Smith added a fast-break dunk to extend the margin, and McNabb sealed the win with a putback in the closing seconds.
Smith led Carroll with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while McNabb finished with 14 points and 7 boards. Peyton McKenna contributed 12 points and 4 assists, and Evan Bland chipped in 7 points and 4 assists. The Pioneers' defense forced 20 Millikin turnovers and converted them into 10 points.
Carroll dominated second-chance opportunities, scoring 16 points off 18 offensive rebounds. The Pioneers also matched Millikin with 5 fast-break points and held a slight edge in points in the paint, 32–34.
Millikin was led by Lane Thomann's 22 points and 5 rebounds, but Carroll's resilience and late-game execution proved decisive.
With the win, Carroll improves to 7–7 overall and 2–3 in conference play. The Pioneers will look to build momentum as they continue CCIW action next week.
