Box Score MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Freshman right-hander Amanda Osterhus (Munster, Ind.) pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and three walks to lead the Carroll University softball team to a 13-0 victory over Alverno College in the opening game of a nonconference doubleheader Wednesday.
It was the fourth shutout of the year and season-high run total for Carroll, which improved to 8-9 overall.
Osterhus, 4-3 overall, had a no-hitter working through 6 2/3 innings before surrendering a two-out single to right field in the bottom of the seventh.
Leading 2-0 after six complete innings, the Pioneers scored 11 runs on 12 hits in the top of the seventh to ensure a victory.
Senior shortstop Megan Kohlmetz (Appleton, Wis.) went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and scored a run to power a 17-hit attack for Carroll. Senior left fielder Kara McCaughrean (Woodstock, Ill.) and sophomore right fielder Annika Graves (Muskego, Wis.) each added three hits for the Pioneers, who generated three doubles and a triple in the contest.
Sophomore second baseman Maggie Erdman (Jefferson, Wis.) and freshman third baseman Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.) had two hits each for Carroll, which had three stolen bases. Graves, Kemnitzer and sophomore catcher Veronica Rodriguez (South Bend, Ind.) each had two RBIs.
Sophomore second baseman Carina Jimenez had the lone hit for Alverno, which dropped to 6-7 overall.
