Carroll sweeps doubleheader

Pioneers rally for eight runs in the fifth

Box Score MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Sophomore second baseman Maggie Erdman (Jefferson, Wis.) went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs as the Carroll University softball team defeated Alverno College 10-4 in six innings to cap the second game of a nonconference doubleheader Wednesday evening.
The Pioneers, who swept the two-game series to improve to 9-9 overall, have won two of their last three games.
The game was officially called with two outs in the bottom of the sixth because of darkness.
Sophomore right-fielder Annika Graves (Muskego, Wis.) followed with two hits and drove in a run for the Pioneers, who pounded out 12 hits in the contest.
Carroll trailed 3-0 after four innings but answered with eight runs on seven hits and took advantage of an error in the decisive top of the fifth.
Senior left fielder Kara McCaughrean (Woodstock, Ill.) had three RBIs, including a two-run single to center field during the fifth-inning rally. Senior first baseman Kelly Strasser (Waterford, Wis.) had two RBIs for the Pioneers. 
Senior winning pitcher Hannah Miller (Chicago, Ill.), freshman designated hitter Haylee Arroyo (Mayville, Wis.) and freshman center fielder Rosalie Jrolf (Dousman, Wis.) each drove in one run.
Miller, a right-hander, allowed three runs on six hits with three strikeouts and four walks through four complete innings for the Pioneers. Freshman right-hander Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.) pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, yielding one run on one hit with two strikeouts and no walks.
Starting pitcher Ashlie Rossi went 2-for-3 with with a double and two RBIs for Alverno, which dropped to 6-8 overall. The junior right-hander took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits through 4 1/3 innings.
