Box Score KENOSHA, Wis. - Senior left fielder Kara McCaughrean delivered an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning but the Carroll University softball team lost to Carthage College 3-1 in the opening game of a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.
The loss snapped a four a four-game winning streak for the Pioneers, who dropped to 5-2 in the conference standings and 14-11 overall.
Carthage, which won its eighth straight to improve to 8-1 in conference and 17-8 overall, scored all of its runs in the bottom of the third on a three-run home run to left field by senior third baseman Darian Pelsor.
Senior right-hander Katie Herron was the winning pitcher, scattering six hits with seven strikeouts and four walks the Lady Reds.
Senior shortstop Megan Kohlmetz (Appleton, Wis.), senior first baseman Kelly Strasser (Waterford, Wis.)sophomore catcher Veronica Rodriguez (South Bend, Ind.), sophomore second baseman Maggie Erdman (Jefferson, Wis.) and freshman third baseman Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.) each had a hit for Carroll, which stranded nine baserunners.
Freshman right-hander Amanda Osterhus (Munster, Ind.) pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts and three walks in taking a complete-game loss for the Pioneers.
