Amanda Osterhus (Munster, Ind.) pitched a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts and two walks to lead the Carroll University softball team to a 6-1 victory over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy to begin its second day of the PFX Spring Games at the Hancock Rec Complex on Sunday morning.
It was the third consecutive victory for Carroll, which improved to 4-2 overall.
Freshman center fielder
Sierra Grubor (Milwaukee, Wis.) went 3-for-4 and scored two runs for Carroll, which collected nine hits and showcased its defensive discipline and mental toughness by playing its third straight error-free game.Â
Junior third baseman
Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and scored a run for the Pioneers, who have combined to outscore their first three Florida trip opponents by a statement making 12-4 margin.
Kemnitzer drove in what proved to be the winning run on a groundout in the top of the first inning.
Senior catcher
Veronica Rodriguez (South Bend, Ind.), freshman pinch hitter
Katelyn Schneider (Sussex, Wis.) and freshman pinch hitter
Madison Wagner (Harrison, Wis.) each drove in a run.
Junior left fielder Kayla Sowers drove in the lone run in the sixth for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, which dropped to 1-1 overall.
