Box Score CLERMONT, Fla. - The Carroll University softball team defeated SUNY Potsdam 4-2 to cap the first day of the PFX Spring Games at the Hancock Rec Complex on Saturday night.
It was the second straight victory of the 12-game spring break road trip for Carroll, which improved to 3-2 overall.
Trailing 2-0 after the first inning, the Pioneers showcased their resilience by responding with one run in the bottom of the second and three runs in what proved to be a decisive third.
Senior first baseman
Kelsey Edwards (Rockford, Ill.) drove in a run on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the second for the Pioneers, who amassed 15 hits in the contest. Junior starting third baseman
Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.) and freshman left fielder
Katelyn Schneider (Sussex, Wis.) each delivered run-scoring singles and sophomore third baseman/catcher
Allyssa Demma (Orland Park, Ill.) added an RBI sacrifice fly in the third.Â
Junior designated hitter
Rosalie Jrolf (Dousman, Wis.) went 3-for-4 for Carroll, which didn't commit an error. Kemnitzer, Schneider, Demma and freshman center fielder
Sierra Grubor (Milwaukee, Wis.) each followed with two hits.
Kemnitzer, who relieved starting freshman right-hander
Kaylee Learman (Greenwood, Wis.) in the second, pitched the final six innings to earn the victory - yielding no hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.
Junior Megan Fish took the loss, yielding four earned runs on 15 hits for SUNY Potsdam, which dropped to 0-2 overall.
