Box Score CLERMONT, Fla. - Junior third baseman
Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.) drove in the winning run on a clutch, one-out single to center field in the top of the ninth inning as the Carroll University softball team defeated Washington College 2-1 in its first game of the PFX Spring Games at the Hancock Rec Complex on Saturday afternoon.
It was the first contest of a challenging 12-game spring break road trip for Carroll, which improved to 2-2 overall.
Sophomore pinch-runner
Emily Green (Oswego, Ill.) scored from third with the game-winner for the Pioneers, who collected five hits and didn't commit an error.
Carroll scored its first run of the extra-inning contest on an RBI sacrifice fly to right field by freshman center fielder
Sierra Grubor (Milwaukee, Wis.) in the top of the eighth.
Washington College tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth on a run-scoring single by sophomore pinch-hitter Caroline Braungard.
Junior right-hander
Amanda Osterhus (Munster, Ind.) pitched a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts and four walks to earn a complete-game victory.
Osterhus forced a flyout and back-to-back groundouts to end the game.
Senior Maddie Bennett took the complete-game loss, scattering five hits with six strikeouts and one walk for Washington, which dropped to 1-5 overall.
