RIPON, Wis. – The Carroll University women's indoor track and field team began the 2022-23 season at the Ripon Winter Open and Multi competition. The Pios finished with 71 team points and walked away with a fourth-place finish.
Vanessa Uitenbroek was the lone first-place finisher for the group.
In track events,
Mary Quinn finished second in the 60m hurdles with a 9.60 finals time after turning in a 9.56 prelims time.
Lexi Elegbede-Peer finished in sixth place in the 60m dash with a time of 8.11. Anika Tollerud collected two team points in the women's 400-meter, and Rebekah Buboltz and
Natalie Dresang added eight total points in the 800-meter run. The Pio 4x400 team of Buboltz, Dresang,
Chiri Watanabe, and Tollerud won their heat and finished third in the event.
In field events, Uitenbroek won the shot put with a throw of 13.80 meters, which finishes inside the top ten in the longest throws in DIII this season. Uitenbroek was joined by
Maria Falk and
Kaitlyn Brucci inside the top-eight. Carroll weight throwers Falk,
Cate Gudaitis, and
Grace Kelly collected eight points for the Pioneers.
Jessica Mueller finished in third place after landing a 3.18-meter pole vault on her first attempt.
Sydney Halversen and
Mary Quinn both added team points with a second and fourth-place finish in the high jump, respectively.
Carroll will fine-tune their opening weekend mechanics with a trip to UW-Oshkosh next Saturday, December 10.
