WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University men's golf team will compete locally this weekend in the 2022 CCIW Men's Golf Championships, hosted by the Pioneers. The championship will take place at Brown Deer Golf Course in Brown Deer, Wisconsin, Friday, April 29 through Saturday, April 30.
The men's golf team has shown glimpses of excellence this season, led by
Evan Bridges and
Erik Hopp. Bridges, a junior from Woodstock, Illinois, leads the team with a 78.3 average score per 18 holes. Bridges has eight top-20 finishes, three top-10, and one top-five finish this season in 16 rounds. Hopp, a senior from Appleton, Wisconsin, has the team's lowest round of the year with a score of 70. Earlier this season, at the CCIW Preview at Brown Deer, four Pio golfers combined for a score of 326, or 42 over par. Head coach
Marcus Suelflow says the team will need to focus on consistency to get within reach of their low round of the season of 311, "It's going to be a matter of staying in the moment and focusing on the task at hand," says Suelflow.
"I'm confident we'll surprise some folks," says Suelflow on his prediction how the Pios will play. The Pioneers were picked to finish ninth in the CCIW Men's Golf Championship Coaches Poll. "I wouldn't be shocked if we finish towards the middle of the pack."
The first two rounds of the CCIW Men's Golf Championship begin at 8 AM on Friday, April 29. Live scoring of the event will be available, linked online at gopios.com/mgolf.
