RIPON, Wis. - The Carroll University men's track and field team finished third at the season-opening seven-team Ripon College Winter Open at the Willmore Center on Saturday.
It was the first official meet for Carroll first-year head coach Rick Bellford, whose squad scored 57 points in the challenging indoor competition.
Nathan Raatz won the 800-meter run in a time of 1 minute, 57.60 seconds and also ran the second leg of the second-place 4x400 relay (also consisting of
Eber Lopez,
River Sterud and
Austin Sanderfoot) (3:36.92) to help lead the Pioneers.
Spencer Kirsteatter won the 5,000 (15:35.20) and
Jimmy Hinkley added a victory in the weight throw with a (16.81m or 55-2).
Other top-eight individual finishers for Carroll were:
Gabe Smith, fifth in weight throw (15.03m or 49-3.75);
Ethan Zilisch, sixth in high jump (1.82m or 5-11.50);
River Sterud, seventh in 400 (55.77);
Carter Ratcliff, seventh in 800 (23.41);
Peyton Thomas, seventh in triple jump (11.64m or 38-2.25);
Brady Reusser, fifth in shot put (14.09m 46-2.75) and seventh in weight throw (14.50m or 47-7).
