WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University women's indoor track and field team will travel down to the 2023 CCIW Indoor Track and Field Championships this Friday and Saturday in Bloomington, Illinois. The Illinois Wesleyan University Titans are hosting the event for the first time since 2020.
The Pioneers head into the meet projected to finish tied for sixth according to the pre-meet coaches poll, voted on by head coaches of each of the nine member schools. In 2022, Carroll finished in third place, the highest women's team finish in the CCIW in program history. Carroll collected 88.5 points last season to grab the bronze medal.
The Pioneers have two athletes ranked first in the conference entering the meet, including 2022 Women's Shot Put Champion
Vanessa Uitenbroek. Uitenbroek currently sits #1 in the CCIW and #2 in Division III with a shot put distance of 14.64 meters. On top of shot put, Uitenbroek is ranked fifth in the CCIW in weight throw entering the weekend. The other top ranked athlete for the Pioneers is
Mary Quinn in the pentathlon. Quinn re-set her school record earlier this season and won the Tadd Metzger Pentathlon with a score of 2,991 points. Quinn was all-conference in the event a year ago at conference, and enters this weekend also ranked sixth in 60m hurdles and third in high jump.
