ROCHESTER, NY –
Vanessa Uitenbroek and
Cate Gudaitis of Carroll University women's outdoor track and field collected USTFCCCA All-American Honors in discus at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Rochester, New York. Uitenbroek finished in fifth place while Gudaitis came in eighth. Both Pioneers were All-Americans in the same event a year ago.
Uitenbroek, a junior from Kaukauna, Wisconsin, submitted a final distance of 47.75m. Uitenbroek, who started in flight two, hit that mark on her second throw of the afternoon. Uitenbroek had a finals long throw of 46.93m on her first attempt to stay in the top eight. This is Uitenbroek's third overall All-American title, and second in the discus.
Gudaitis, a senior from Arlington Heights, Illinois, wasted no time putting out a 44.34m throw, landing it on her first attempt. Gudaitis, who started in flight one, waited anxiously to hear her name announced for Finals. Gudaitis held off the nine spot and submitted a 41.32m throw in finals to stay on the podium. This is Gudaitis' second All-American title.
Uitenbroek will continue the weekend in shot put on Friday, and hammer on Saturday.
