Box Score NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Carroll University men's tennis team defeated Wartburg College 8-1 in a nonconference dual meet at the Princeton Club on Saturday afternoon.
It was the fourth home-court dual victory of the season for Carroll, which snapped a string of recent back-to-back losses to improve to 5-2 overall with the dominant effort.
The Pioneers were powered by a momentum-building sweep in the doubles flight and two, three-set victories in singles.
Carroll's No. 1 doubles team of
Adrian Gomez and
Daniel Ezcurra defeated Wartburg's Cade Davis and Jeff Miller 8-3.
The No. 2 tandem of siblings
Andrew LaBelle and
Ryan LaBelle and No. 3 duo of
Felix Persson and
Jack McCaffery each followed with an 8-5 victory.
Gomez won in three sets at No. 1 singles, outlasting Wartburg's Davis 6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5). McCaffery claimed the other three-set victory at No. 6 singles, defeating Wartburg's Joseph Haag 7-6 (2), 2-6, 1-0 (10-5).
Ezcurra at No. 2 (6-3, 6-2),
Andrew LaBelle at No. 3 (6-3, 7-5) and
David Eman at No. 5 (6-1, 6-2) each added a straight-set victory for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers will be in action again on Friday when they'll host MSOE at the Princeton Club in New Berlin, Wis. That match will begin at 6:30 p.m.
