OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Carroll University men's track and field team placed fifth in Saturday's seven-team Titan Challenge at Kolf Sports Center (hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh).
It was the Pioneers' final competition before next weekend's College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Indoor Championships.
Jimmy Hinkley, a graduate student from Grayslake, Ill., claimed an individual title for the second consecutive week by winning the weight throw with a distance of 17.63 meters (57-10 1/4). The victory-clinching throw came on his first attempt.
Hinkley is currently ranked fourth in the CCIW and 31st in NCAA Division III in the event, having established a season-best distance of 17.72 meters (58-1 3/4) in a first-place finish at the Dick Hendricks Invitational on Feb. 10.
Carroll's 4x400 relay team added a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:31.85.
Other individuals delivering top-eight finishes for Carroll were:
Nathan Raatz, sixth in 800 (1:54.90);
Peyton Thomas, sixth in triple jump 11.74m (38-6 1/4);
Gabe Smith, seventh in weight throw 15.46m (50-8 3/4)and
Brady Reusser, eighth in shot put 14.50m (47-7).
