Carroll Men Begin Outdoor Season With Strong Performance

Hermsen captures spotlight with victories in discus and hammer throw as Pios finish third at Warrior Invitational

WAUWATOSA, Wis. - The Carroll University men's track and field team finished third in the 13-team Warrior Invitational at Wisconsin Lutheran College's Raabe Stadium on Thursday.
It was the first official outdoor competition of the 2024 spring season for Carroll, which amassed 95 points with the effort.

Steven Hermsen won the discus with a fourth-attempt distance of 54.55 meters (179-0) and followed with a victory in the hammer throw with a final-attempt distance of 54.98 meters (180-5).
Hermsen is the three-time defending national champion in discus and currently ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division III. He is also ranked seventh nationally in hammer throw.

Brady Reusser was second in shot put with a distance of 13.82 meters (45-4) and second in discus with 43.76 meters (143-7).
Jared Kniola finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.59 seconds) and Ethan Zilisch was second in the long jump 6.19 meters (20-3.75) for the Pioneers.

Other individuals delivering top-eight finishes for the Pioneers were: Austin Sanderfoot, third in 1,500 (4:07.04); Will Campbell, third in shot put 13.75m (45-1.25) and third in discus 42.21m (138-6); Noah Streveler, fifth in javelin 41.27m (135-5); Nathan Raatz, fifth in 1,500 (4:12.24); Reusser, fifth in hammer throw 41.19m (135-2); Will Campbell, sixth in hammer throw 40.66m (133-5) and Peyton Thomas, seventh in long jump 5.74m (18-10).

Carroll's 4x400 relay (consisting of Eber Lopez, Patrick Signore, Ethan Weber and River Sterud) was second in 3:41.48.

The Pioneers are scheduled to host the Wisconsin Private College Championships on Saturday, April 6.
