BELOIT, Wis. - The Carroll University men's track and field team placed third in the nine-team Beloit Relays on Saturday.
Steven Hermsen won the discus with a second-attempt distance of 54.65 meters (179-4), shot put with a fifth-attempt 16.22 meters (53-2.5) and was third in hammer throw with 54.20 meters (177-10) to lead Carroll, which scored 98 points.
Hermsen, the three-time defending NCAA Division III champion in discus, is currently second ranked in the nation in the event. He is 15th in shot put and 23rd in the hammer throw.
Jimmy Hinkley followed with a victory in the hammer throw with a final attempt distance of 59.03 meters (193-8) for the Pioneers. Hinkley is currently seeded sixth in the nation.
Peter Marra contributed a victory in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.04 seconds
Carroll's 4x800 relay team (consisting of
Sawyer Caves,
River Sterud,
Ethan Weber and
Nathan Raatz) won in a time of 8:24.96. The Pioneers' 4x400 relay (comprised of Marra,
Ethan Weber,
Eber Lopez and Raatz) was second in 3:25.59.
Other individuals delivering top-eight finishes for Carroll were:
Will Campbell, third in discus 45.42m (149-0);
Ethan Weber, fourth in 400 (52.13); Raatz, fifth in 200 (23.42);
Ethan Zilisch, fifth in long jump 6.26m (20-6.5);
Brady Reusser, fifth in discus 42.37m (139-0) and shot put 14.48m (47-6); Sterud, eighth in 400 (54.07) and
Gabe Smith, seventh in hammer throw 59.03m (193-8).
