WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carroll University men's track and field team placed fourth in the Wisconsin Private College Championships at Dennis Punches Track and Field Complex on Saturday.
Steven Hermsen won the discus with a meet-record distance of 54.57 meters (179-0), finished second in the shot put with a fifth-attempt distance of 15.98 meters (52-5.25) and was third in the hammer throw (55.51m) to help lead Carroll, which scored 87 points in the competition.
Hermsen, the three-time defending national champion in discus, is currently seeded No. 1 in NCAA Division III in the event. He is tied for 18th in shot put and 20th in hammer throw.
Jimmy Hinkley followed with a victory in the hammer throw with a meet-record distance of 59.76m (196-1) for the Pioneers.
Hinkley, who is seeded fifth in the event in NCAA Division III, also established a school record in the process, shattering his own prior mark of 56.37m (184-11) established at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Outdoor Championships in 2022.
Nathan Raatz added a victory in the 800-meter run, finishing in a time of 1 minute, 56.34 seconds.
Other individuals placing within the top eight for Carroll were:
Ethan Zilisch, third in high jump (1.80m) and seventh in long jump 6.33m (20-9.25);
Peter Marra, third in 400 hurdles (56.56);
Brady Reusser, fourth in shot put 13.93m (45-8.5);
Will Campbell, fourth in discus (43.60m) and fifth in shot put 13.68m (44-10.75);
Austin Sanderfoot, fifth in 5,000 (15:19.52);
Bailey Olson, sixth in 3,000 steeplechase (10:51.03);
Ethan Zilisch, seventh in long jump 6.33m (20-9.25) and
Jared Kniola, seventh in 400 hurdles (1:01.39)
Carroll's 4x400 relay (comprised of Marra,
Ethan Weber,
River Sterud and Raatz) took fourth in 3:30.20.
