Steven Hermsen finished 12th out of 22 competitors Friday in the Shot Put on the second day of 2024 Outdoor Nationals. The top nine throwers advanced to the Finals, with the top eight earning All-American honors, a distinction Hermsen earned in the event last year.
A native of De Pere, Wis., Hermsen's top throw of 16.22m (53-02.75) came on his first of three attempts. His other two throws resulted in a fault. He missed the cut for the finals by 0.24m (9.25 inches).
Hermsen finishes his outstanding career with the Pioneers as a seven-time All-American across all events, winning three national championships in the Outdoor Discus. The owner of four school records (Discus, Weight Throw, Indoor Shot Put, Outdoor Shot Put), Hermsen is a two-time Outdoor National Scholar Field Athlete of the Year, while also earning Division-III Track All-American of the Year in 2022. He is a four-time CCIW Champion, earning the conference's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Meet three times.
