Box Score WAUKESHA, Wis. – With the half of Carroll's men's tennis team competing in the CCIW Fall Invitational this weekend, the Pioneers (0-1) sought to start the season strong in a match against Edgewood (1-0) on Saturday afternoon.
Carroll was looking to get off to a hot start in doubles, and they got two of the three doubles matches, claiming the sole doubles point. In the one doubles position,
Layton Carls and
Brayden Richardson defeated Drew Hoffman and Justin Hutchcroft 6-4. The junior tandem of
Nathan Buntrock and
Tyler Eberle ultimately fell 3-6 in a battle with Marek Woytasik and Jon Olafsson at two doubles. At three doubles
Owen Buggert and Braeden Poissin clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-4) win over Taite Thomas and Ethan Towne. With the doubles point secured the Pioneers looked ahead to singles to secure a win.
Singles play would not go Carroll's way as they only claimed one victory out of the six positions.
Brayden Richardson fell to Jon Olaffson 4-6 3-6 in the one singles spot. At two,
Layton Carls couldn't find his footing as he fell to Justin Hutchcroft 2-6 2-6 at two singles.
Nathan Buntrock put up a battle, but ultimately could not get it done as he lost 5-7 3-6 to Drew Hoffman.
Owen Buggert told a similar story falling 6-7 (4-7) 3-6 to sophomore Marek Woytasik in the fourth position. Braeden Poissin was defeated by Taite Thomas 2-6 4-6 at five singles. Finally, at six singles junior
Tyler Eberle claimed the lone singles victory over Ethan Towne in super-tiebreak fashion. 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 11-9.
Carroll men's tennis will look to bounce back on September 15 as they travel to La Crosse, Wis. to face off against UW-Lacrosse in a dual match.
