NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its annual Men's Tennis All-Conference team Wednesday afternoon, with a pair of Carroll players named as All-CCIW First Team selections. Seniors
Daniel Ezcurra and
Adrian Gomez did the honors, as both players were named to the All-Conference team for the second consecutive season. The duo helped the Pioneers to an 11-8 overall record this year, which marks the program's third consecutive season with double-digit victories.
After earning Second Team All-Conference honors a year ago, Ezcurra is making his first career appearance on the CCIW's First Team. A Senior from Bilbao, Spain, Ezcurra finished the year with a 6-9 singles record, including a 3-1 mark at number one singles. He went 4-3 in singles play during the conference season, while winning his final four matches of the year. In doubles play, Ezcurra went 12-5 while playing with Gomez at the top flight. That duo also finished with a 3-3 mark in conference play.
Gomez is making his second consecutive First Team appearance. The Senior from Logrono, Spain finished the year with a team-best record of 13-3 in singles play, going 10-3 at the top flight and a perfect 3-0 record at the number two flight. He went 5-1 in singles play during conference matches, while teaming up with Ezcurra to go 12-5 at number one doubles, including 3-3 in the CCIW.
Also a part of the annual All-Conference awards for each sport every year is the CCIW RESPECT Award winners, with each school receiving one honoree. This year's RESPECT Award recipient for Carroll's men's tennis team is Senior
Jack McCaffery. The Waukesha, Wis. native went 9-8 in singles play this year, while playing primarily at the number three position. He also finished 6-5 in doubles play, primarily at the third flight.
