Carroll Battles, Falls to Illinois Tech

Box Score NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Carroll University men's tennis team fell 6–1 to Illinois Institute of Technology on Friday afternoon in a nonconference matchup at home.

Illinois Tech claimed the doubles point despite Carroll earning a win at No. 2 doubles. David Eman and Andrew LaBelle picked up a 7–5 victory at the top spot, but the Scarlet Hawks responded with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to secure the opening point and take a 1–0 lead.

In singles play, Carroll picked up one point at No. 5, where David Eman earned a three-set victory over Hozumi Tada. Eman took the opening set 6–4, dropped the second 6–1, and closed out the match with a 10–5 win in the super tiebreaker.

Several other matches were tightly contested across the lineup. At No. 2 singles, Ulrik Gellein pushed Tanay Sharma to a deciding super tiebreak before falling 6–3, 0–6, 10–5. Layton Carls also battled to three sets at No. 6, splitting the first two sets before dropping a 10–3 super tiebreak.

Illinois Tech secured straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 singles to pull away and seal the match.

Carroll showed competitiveness throughout the lineup and will look to build on those performances as the Pioneers continue their slate with their Spring Break trip on Hilton Head Island March 8-11.
