HILTON HEAD, SC. - The Carroll men's and women's tennis teams continued spring break competition Monday with a pair of matches against Hardin-Simmons University.
On the men's side, Carroll dropped a 6–1 decision. The Pioneers earned their point at No. 2 singles, where Andrew LaBelle delivered a strong performance, winning a tightly contested match in straight sets, 7–5, 7–6(7). Carroll faced a challenging opponent across the lineup, with several matches extending deep into sets as the Pioneers continued to gain valuable experience against a strong spring break field.
The women's team fell 7–0 in its match, but the final score did not reflect the competitiveness of several courts. Katherine Trifilio battled through a three-set match at No. 2 singles, claiming the opening set before eventually falling in a 10-point tiebreak. Multiple singles courts featured long rallies and close games as Carroll continued to compete throughout the lineup.
Both teams remain in the midst of spring break play, using the stretch of matches to build rhythm and evaluate lineups ahead of conference competition later this season. The next matchup comes Wednesday against Catholic University, which is another strong matchup that will test the Pioneers.
