Kenosha, Wis. – The Carroll University men's Tennis team sent eight singles and four doubles pairings to Carthage this past weekend for the CCIW Men's Tennis Fall Invitational. Combined, the men finished with a 6
th place finish, five 7
th place finishes, and six 8
th place finishes.
The best finish of the weekend came from the doubles pair of
Lucas Nay (France) and
Joseph Harrison (England). They were able to hold off Augustana's pair in an 8-6 win, but fell in the 5
th place match to North Central's number one group 8-6. Nay and Harrison finished their singles bracket in 7
th place, with Nay finishing in straight sets (6-3, 7-5) and Harrison winning his match against Illinois Wesleyan.
Ryan Strupp (Allenton, Wis.) was able to finish 7
th as well, winning his singles match 7-5, 6-0.
Jordan Nowell (Waukesha, Wis.) faced tough competition in his 7
th place match against IWU, but wound up victorious in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). The final seventh place finish of the weekend for the Pioneers came from Strupp and Nowell, handling Illinois Wesleyan 8-4.
Others who competed this weekend includes
Brian Trefliek (Rockton, Ill.),
Sam Fay (Burlington, Wis.),
Luke Barter (Buffalo Grove, Ill.), and
Josh Boos (Waukesha, Wis.). The men will take a break from competing for a week, then travel to Gustavus-Adolphus for the ITA Regional Tournament in St. Peters, Minn.
