St. Peter, Minn.—The Carroll University men's tennis team send individuals to the ITA Midwest Regional and the Midwest open this past weekend hosted at Gustavus Adolphus College. The Pioneers had two Carroll student athletes in the singles regional and five in the open. For doubles, Carroll had one pair in the Regional and two in the open.
First in singles, the men had an overall record of 2-8.
Lucas Nay won his first match 2 sets to 1. He would later fall in the next round.
Brian Trefliek was able to advance after his first-round match, but faced a similar fate to Nay, falling on day one in the second round.
Sam Fay,
Luke Barter,
Jordan Nowell,
Ryan Strupp, and
Joseph Harrison all competed in singles, and lost in the first round.
In doubles, Nay and Harrison were able to combine their efforts, and defeat their opponents in the first round handily with a score of 8-3. The duo put up a good fight in the second round but fell 8-4 from a pair of athletes from Coe. In the open, Trefliek and Barker were victorious as well in their first match against SMU 8-4, but fell in the next round 8-3. Fay and Nowell were bested by a pair for UWEC in their first round of the open.
This tournament concluded fall play for the Pioneers, they will next be back in action in February against St. Norbert.
