RACINE, Wis. - Competing at the 6,511-yard, par-71 Meadowbrook CC Thursday afternoon, Carroll's men's golf team finished ninth among the 13 competing teams in the Firebird Spring Invitational, hosted by Carthage College.
The Pioneers finished with a score of +39, which was just three strokes behind UW-Stevens Point's eighth-place total, and 16 strokes shy of St. Norbert's winning score. Carroll had their moments at the event, finishing with the seventh-most pars (38), along with the tournament's only eagle, which was made by
Charlie Krall on the par-five third hole. Fellow Pio Charlie Morrison was tied for fourth on the day with three birdies, which was just one shy of the tournament leader.
Morrison led the way, finishing 19th overall with a +8, while Widar Burman Voss and
Grant Naumann finished 28th with identical +10 scores. Krall was fourth on the team, just one stroke behind Burman Voss and Naumann, while
Ole Sonsteby rounded out Carroll's team score with a +18.
Mathias Werring also participated as an individual, finishing with a 10-over-par.
The Pios will be in action again on Saturday when they'll compete in the Morningstar Masters, hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College. That event will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Morningstar Golf Club in Waukesha, Wis.
