PEORIA, Ill. - After shooting a team score of 21-over-par in the first round of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Championships on Thursday, Carroll's men's golf team managed to improve ne stroke, finishing with a 20-over-par on day two of the annual tournament. The Pioneers will enter the third and final day of the event 12 strokes shy of the seventh-place score.
The Pios recorded 11 birdies during Friday's second round, while also amassing 43 pars on the day. Their two-day total thus far includes a combined 103 pars, which ranks fourth among the nine competing teams.
After shooting a team-worst +14 on Thursday,
Charlie Krall turned things around and finished with the best score on the Carroll team on day two, shooting a +1 score of 73. Krall made the biggest jump of any Pioneer in the individual standings, improving six spots to 38th overall. The Pios' leading score entering the final day of competition is
Widar Voss, who sits in 19th place. After shooting even-par on Thursday, Voss added a score of +7 on Friday.
Grant Naumann's two-day total of +13 is second on the team, in 34th place overall, while
Mathias Werring is just one stroke behind Naumann, with a two-round total of +14.
Carter Morrison will bring a total of +17 into Saturday's final round.
The tournament will again be held at WeaverRidge Golf Club in Peoria, Ill. on Saturday, as the Pioneers look to improve on their score yet again.
