Steve Harris was a standout Pioneer in both football and baseball, earning All-Midwest Conference in each sport. He finished his career holding records for rushing yards in a season (1,438), touchdowns in a season (20 in 1994), points in a season (122 in 1994), two-point conversions in a season (5 in 1992) and career yards per carry (6.1 yards). At the time of graduation, Harris held the Carroll record for career rushing yards (3,487) and career touchdowns (49). In 1992 Harris was named the team’s Offensive Rookie of the Year. He went on to earn three All-Midwest Conference First-Team selections as a running back and was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Year in 1994, while also garnering third-team All-American honors. In 1994 he ranked among the nation’s best running backs in scoring (3rd) and rushing (6th) and was also the team captain. In 1992, Harris was named Unanimous First-Team All-CCIW in baseball. Led team in stolen bases in 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995. In 1994, led the team in triples (5) and had a team best batting average of .388. Led team all four years in stolen bases.
